name generator questions
What is the royal pet name generator?
A free tool that gives your dog or cat the full royal title your pet's behaviour has clearly earned. Pick boy or girl, dog or cat, add your pet's name and personality, and we will do the rest. Got a new puppy or kitten instead? Switch to the naming tab for 750 ideas.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up. You only need to give us an email if you want a printable certificate or your name shortlist sent to you.
Can I turn my pet into a royal portrait?
Yes. Upload a photo to Royal Pawtrait and you will see a free instant preview in about a minute, before you buy anything. Choose a print on museum-quality fine-art paper, a framed print, a canvas or a mug.
How do I choose a name for my puppy or kitten?
Keep it short, avoid anything that sounds like a command, and pick something you are happy saying a hundred times a day. Use the naming tab to filter by dog or cat, boy or girl and style, heart the ones you like, then narrow it down as a family.
What are the most popular dog and cat names in the UK?
In Agria Pet Insurance's 2025 list of puppy names, Luna, Bella and Daisy topped the girls and Teddy, Milo and Charlie the boys. For cats, Pets at Home's 2025 list was led by Luna, Milo and Bella.
Do cats actually know their names?
Yes. A 2019 study published in Scientific Reports found that pet cats can tell their own name apart from other similar-sounding words. Whether they choose to answer is another matter.
Can I change my rescue pet's name?
Yes. Use the new name often, always in a happy voice, and pair it with treats and fuss. Most dogs and cats settle into a new name within a few weeks.
